Re: The evolution of ""Jail"
One of my all time favorite Trio songs. Always enjoy performing it as well. Back in the Dustmen days my old bandmate Russ Scinta always killed the high harmonies on the last chorus.
My favorite memory of singing this though is a late night hotel bar session after an Irish festival where I got to sing this with Tommy Makem's son Rory Makem and his two then bandmates Mickey and Liam Spain (all of whom are big Trio fans).
Lots of fun.
I recall the first time I heard "Tijuana Jail", I thought it was great..funny and just sparkled...Then I heard the OUAT version was knocked out...How did the song go from being an almost staid calypso song to the almost Elvis-like version on that?
I ask because I hear clips of TMJ doing the song as the original single version live..which seems almost lifeless...
While BGR didn't do the song as fast as OUAT, they did a great ,lively rendition...
So, my question is this...when did the arrangement change? I can't recall if there's a live version of it with the Guard Trio and how that was handled...Anyone know?
