Josh, an excellent post! Like you, I consider the KT a retired act. The Kingston Trio became history that September evening in Asheville when George, Bill and Rick performed their final encore to a standing room only, cheering and applauding audience. The curtain closed, the stage lights dimmed and our
beloved friends became a musical and entertainment history.
I especially liked the quote you offered: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”
Yes!! For over 60 years it happened and we can always bring it back into our lives with the flip of a switch, thanks to records, tapes and videos
I admit Rick went for the jugular, but for MM to attack him for being LEO? Dude, that's weak. This is a current events discussion, not history. You have no idea how Rick conducted himself in his profession, while yours is out there for all to see. The vocals and instruments are sub-par. Period. That opinion is formed from the videos YOU have produced and released.
Whatever went down legally with Bob Shane, IMO, need not be public. It's done. As a fan, I don't feel I have any right to know.
I pretty much gave up on the trio after Shane retired and everything went down with Bobby H anyway. What ever your take was on that one, it was handled poorly as well. Bobby bounced back, had some great times, and I was proud to be part of a few of them. At that point, I emotionally bowed out of the Kingston Trio.
The fact is, I was tired of hearing the same 30 songs anyway. Now we have the opportunity to hear George and Rick do whatever material they want to do with a new 3rd. Embrace it. Support it. Look to the positive.
As far as the Kingston Trio? To quote Dr. Seuss-"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".
