Not to mention, Marleen, the "Have faith my friend" and "You've got to give until you get" line and then the peroration (nya nya) ""I thank the Lord, and I thank the pump, and I thank ol' Desert Pete!" Quite profound, really - note the order and sense that as Ben Franklin opined "God helps those who help themselves."
Back in 1970 when I was at Notre Dame, a priest who was a good friend used to ask me to play a song or two at Sunday mass from time to time. I happened to be the first guy around campus who had bought the Lightfoot album originally titled "Sit Down, Young Stranger" and learned most of the tunes. The priest was so blown away by the title track that he asked me to play it the next Sunday - as the sermon. He just introduced it and said "Listen closely," Quite a memory.
