Compared to Taylor it's hard to say. Taylors are all CNC-very little hand work. Martin must still fit the dovetail when they build a guitar, and a robot ain't gonna do that. They save some time by using different height bridges to compensate for neck angle, but it is still some hand work.
Martin uses a dovetail because Martin always used a dovetail. If they didn't, they'd be Collings
Just to follow up, Josh, how much extra cost in labor etc. does a dovetail joint add to the cost of a guitar? I'm trying to figure out why Martin continues to use the dovetail joint and how much of a factor it is in the cost of a Martin.
