I have a 1973 Martin D12-35, a 12-fret rosewood slothead which chimes like a bell choir. I understand that the mahogany version, the D12-20, is possibly even better.
But if I were in the 12-string market today, I would not get either of these. This is because Guild has just announced the reissue of its fabulous F512. This was the guitar of choice for Tom Petty, John Denver and many others. Acoustic Guitar Magazine's review rated it at the top.
So, 12-string seekers, there is hope! Be sure to test this one out if you can. I would love to try one out but am slowly moving into guitar disposal mode, not acquisition.
