A Jazz bass is the model Fender introduced in 1961. It typically has a narrower neck than a Precision(the original Fender bass guitar). The Jazz also has what is referred to as an offset body shape and different electronics and pickguard. Really a totally different guitar from a Precision.
Dave Batti plays a Jazz bass.
: Just browsing my almost daily emails from
: Elderly Instruments, looking at the guitars
: they get in on trade or consignment and I
: see a lot of bass guitars listed as a jazz
: bass. What specifically makes a bass a jazz
: bass? Is it different from one used for
: rock? Just curious on this one. I have a
: Hofner bass, yes, like Paul McCartney's, and
: I assume that's considered a rock and roll
: bass for obvious reasons. Thanks again.
