But where do the Shane's fall as it relates to all of this? When the changes were announced and the lawsuit became public, the Shanes were already embroiled in their bankruptcy proceedings. I've never been through that kind of legal action, but I know the stress and angst can take down younger and healthier folks than the Shanes.
I believe it was shortly after all the changes that Bobbi Shane posted some very personal things about Bob's health. Her description of Bob's concentration difficulties and memory issues seemed to paint a fairly bleak picture. The combination of the Shane's financial stress and Bob's health issues lead me to believe (and it's only my belief) that Bob wasn't driving the bus when things blew up. I would guess Bobbi was in charge of the KT business and there were probably some advisors....some right around here.
Bob Shane is an icon, the anchor of the Kingston Trio for over five decades. The consummate entertainer and the perfect fit for the original Kingston Trio and all the following editions of the band, at least up until this year. He would have to commit a capital offense to get criticism from these halls. He has had a pass through all of this...and he probably deserves it.
I'm no fan of the newest KT configuration....they're just not very good...they are posers. But, honestly, I don't really care. I'll never go see them, but I never saw GBR in person either and they were very good. What I consider the Kingston Trio is available to me on the many CDs I own. Mostly those from the Stewart years.
I'm in no way a peacemaker here. But I will say this...the new guys are the Kingston Trio....accept that or not...they're it. Like me, you can choose to ignore them or elevate your blood pressure making fun of them . As I said I choose to ignoe them..it works well. Really.
