I know George G. uses medium on his HD-28 (or D-28 - I can't remember which model he plays).
NB: I prefer lights for finger picking because I don't use fingerpicks, just the meat of my fingers, and mediums require you to pluck harder.
Ultimately it's personal preference: how much you want one particular sound and how much it pains you fingers.
: At last, a post with nothing to do with, you
: know, those three no-names.
: I have a question with regards the gauges of
: strings you guys (generic "guys")
: use. Right now I have my D-18 and HD-28
: strung up with medium gauge. I also put them
: on my 000M which I had light gauge on. I
: know the obvious answer is "whatever
: sounds good to me" I guess. But what do
: I lose or gain going between light and
: medium gauges on these guitars? Is it just
: in the ease on the fingers? Should the sound
: change? By how much, and in what way. Okay,
: I collect them and try to play them. I've
: never been an expert in all the technical
: stuff. I know nothing about the different
: woods, the bracing, 12 vs 14 fret. Hell, I
: can't even understand all the Martin shapes
: and their numbering system. I just like wood
: and strings. So I don't get what strings I
: should be using. Thanks for any input. And
: we're just sitting here waiting to get
: dumped on yet again! Gawd, I hate winter.
: Especially on the first day of spring!
