Thanks for sharing!
: 1973 was a great year. It's the year my Son
: was born! As for Signals, I love it. It has
: a special meaning to me. I came home from
: Vietnam in July, 1969. After landing at
: Travis Air Force Base in California, we were
: on a bus on the way to the Oakland Army
: Replacement Center. On the bus ride the
: radio was playing. Safe to say it was a
: joyful time for all on the bus. Suddenly,
: I'm listening to John Stewart singing
: California Bloodlines. I'd never heard it
: before. I didn't even know he had a solo
: album. I was thrilled! When I got home to
: Connecticut, and sobered up from the
: impromptu welcome home party my family and
: friends threw me, I went out to buy the
: album and discovered I had missed two
: albums. I bought California Bloodlines and
: Signals Through the Glass and spent a good
: part of the next two weeks of leave before
: going back to Fort Devens, MA listening to
: both albums. Oh yeah, when I was at the
: record store, I found out that there was a
: new Trio album out. WHAT? They disbanded! I
: had discovered Once Upon A Time which had
: just been released. Some good music to
: welcome me home!

: Been fighting this stupid flu, so I've had
: some listening time on my hands.
: Listening to Signals Through The Glass
: tonight. I know John Stewart was not
: particularly proud of this record, but I
: love it. There is something about 1968 west
: coast albums-part of it feels like there may
: have been some sort of transition in
: recording technique and arrangements,
: because there is a "sound" from
: right in that particular snapshot in time.
: I love "Signals". Then there is
: Val Stoecklein's "Grey Life" which
: is in a similar vein and outstanding as
: well. Gayle Caldwell released
: "Cycles". which is great and also
: has that "1968" sound.
: Then you have the Nashville stuff, led by
: the Byrds "Sweetheart Of The
: Rodeo". Totally different sound, but a
: fantastic and seminal country rock album.
: In a way, it set the stage for
: "California Bloodlines".
: Must have been an interesting time to be
: Than again, what the hell do I know? I
: wasn't even born until '73.
