...as some have noted due to the lawsuit, the words Kingston Trio were not allowed on an official Camp merchandise...leading to the shirts saying " Celebrating 60 Years"...and then pics of guitars...and the words Fantasy Camp..
On stage, they made announced the giveaway and made sure to say "This is not affiliated with the Shanes or Camp but a gift"...
So, some friends lined up to get a free t-shirt....It came wrapped in a ball with a cardboard tube around it...
On the outside had the following:
"This shirt is a gift to you, the inner circle of Kingston Trio/John Stewart fans, compliments of Williams and Associates in partnership with Josh Mike and Tim".
"Sign up for the KT Fan Club, "The Order of the Red Capos" on the New KT website"
"Check out the newly refurbished website at kingstontrio.com
"Sign up for next year's "Bob Shane Tribute Camp" with new features/workshops and fun presentations.
"YES, Camp lives on! Look for exciting announcements to come"
Turning the card over was the following...(and all this is verbatim!)
"WELCOME TO THE KINGSTON TRIO FANTASY CAMP 2017...
This is an historic week in the chronology of The Kingston Trio and once again it's been proven that the Family can and will survive. In the spirit of those hundreds of songs played and recorded by the eleven members of the Kingston Trio that came before us we now look forward to carrying on the tradition saved by Bob Shane many years ago when he secured the "Kingston Trio" name for posterity.
We are grateful to Bob for the chance to carry the torch left shining so brightly by George, Bill and Rick. We will work hard to get up to speed but their shoes are incredibly hard to fill. We will do our very best to honor them, Bob and the many others that preceded us. It will take time just like it took Dave, Nick and Bob in their early years. We've had a year to prepare.
Naturally, we will be our own version of "The Kingston Trio" interpreting it from our standpoint of what we bring to the table as somewhat of a "legacy" going back to the very beginning. You will probably see a lot of personal anecdotes relating to those times. Over the last year we've had a lot of fun telling stories about the old days and the audiences have really responded to them.
We are humbled by what Bob saw in our potential as he had many other options as he was considering his choice in preparation of the retirement of George, Bill and Rick. We deeply love Bob, Bobbie, George, Bill and Rick and are grateful for this opportunity. We have given up highly successful careers in order to heed the call. But, we just want to continue the dun.
As Bob so aptly says "To!"o much fun is not enough!"
-Josh, Mike and Tim"
----I had a million reactions to reading this but I will just let it sit here to gauge others reactions....Keep in mind, the way the transition went down was public knowledge by now...the lawsuit was public knowledge by now...and then this...
For the record, I gave my shirt away to a local homeless shelter..I tried wearing it but it was too itchy...
