These three guys must have tin ears but they think they sound great. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
I know its not the interviewer's job to ambush the guest Mike Wallace style but I would have loved to have heard her ask the following questions.
(1) Josh, Your touring schedule looks really thin. Has word gotten out that you're not the real Kingston Trio but just three guys who bought the name?
(2) Josh, Why does your website refer to Nick Reynolds as the leader of the Kingston Trio? Bob Shane has been the one constant for sixty years. Isn't he the true leader?
(3) Josh, If you really wanted to keep the Kingston Trio music alive, shouldn't George, Bill and Rick still be the ones performing as the Kingston Trio and not you three wannabes?
The interview made me sad and angry all over again. Hopefully the laundry mat will lose all their stripe shirts and these three guys will fade away into the sunset. They aren't now or ever will be the Kingston Trio. MTABob
: Some months ago, I broke the news about the
: breakup of the Kingston Trio...or at least
: the change of personnel.
: In another post, I said that September 23rd,
: 2017 was the day that music died.
: After listening to the interview (I finally
: got enough time to listen to it), my
: thoughts about the day music died have been
: re-enforced. While they do have a decent
: gift of gab, their musical talent is totally
: lacking. None can play an instrument to a
: professional level. The trio, until now,
: have had world class banjo players starting
: with Dave and ending with George. I did not
: hear any picking of banjo except on Tom
: Dooley and that was very bad. It sounded
: like all guitar playing was strumming. On
: the vocal side, all three are weak and none
: have any range. I have heard better from
: college groups and a lot better at Fantasy
: I know that they are trying to play up the
: part of Nick, but if memory serves me
: correctly, Nick was the last to become a
: member and was never the lead person. It
: seems his favorite thing was staying drunk
: most of the time and he never made sound
: checks, etc.
: Yes, I am sad...sad for the Legacy of the
: Trio and how it is not being taken into the
: future based upon the past.
