For years--no, DECADES--I felt the biggest kinship to the Nick-Bob-John group, largely, I suppose, because I became a real fan after John entered the group, a transition that I didn't even know about at the time. My favorite songs and albums are largely NBJ products. I also, of course, love the NBD stuff, and the Nick-Bob-Bobby version, though precious few recordings emerged in that era (or show TWO eras).
BUT in the course of the last 12 years, I've grown to appreciate the musicianship of the GBR trio more than any other. Musically, they lap the other configurations. It helps, of course, that they have always been extremely fan-friendly, both at (and after) concerts and at Fantasy Camps. I miss them more than I missed the Trio after the final hungry i concerts in 1967. Never thought that could be the case.
