Posted by dave Not sure what your definition of reasonable is, but Kate Spencer of Maple Leaf music just sent me pics of a very good looking old Bacon long neck that they were selling for about $700. Now, these were made by the Gretsch (spelling?) company in the 60's in an effort to get in on the big folk craze. They were mass produced and have no tone ring, but are a pretty handsome instrument. I can send you the pics if you want, I was going to grab it, but a wave of bills just arrived. Another option is the Goldtone Maple Mountain Long neck (Korean parts, allegedly assembled here) which can be had for $655 from Elderly. If it were up to me, I'd rather play something with a little history to it than a new import. If 700 isn't reasonable, you can scour for the old Kays and Harmonies online, but they look pretty junkey to me. For the price of having a luthier make you a long neck, you could probably almost buy a beat up Seeger, so I wouldn't go that route...
