This bill created by PuertoRican Congress Representative Jose Serrano of New York, and rapidly cosponsor by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will allow federal Money to be use for Syringe Exchange Programs as part of PublicHealth campain that has shown not only significantly curve the spread of Aids & Hepatatis amongs IVDrug Users, but it doesn't increase the use of drugs or add new addicts to the roll.In fact evidence is showing that IVDrug Users not only beging to improve on their health, but many, on their own,and without coercion request treatment. The Harm Reduction Coalition http://www.harmreduction.org and North America Syringe Exchange Network http://www.nasen.org/ are working on evidence and research based appropiate medical protocols and best practice for current and future Syringe Exchange Programs.
A workshop is being sponsor by the Harm Reduction Coaltion and NASEN in Miami,Florida on Nov. 13 2008 @7pm.At the Downtown Miami Hilton 1601 Biscayne Blvd. Contact santiago@harmreduction.org 202-213-6276x15
The North America Syringe Exchange Network http://www.nasen.org/ ,can provide Starter Kits and Technical Support as well as cheaper cost of needed equipment. This will also be available for discussion. Any interested party is invited to participate. We actively seek the participation
of church members and pastors; the health related professionals; attorneys; government officials as well as employees and local authorities.
Persons who wish to attend the Syringe Exchange Workshop do not need to be a participant to the Harm Reduction Coalition Conference Nov 13-16 2008.
We know that syringe exchange works; we know the political will is more open to today's reality. Blacks and Hispanics are amongst the largest percentage of new HIV and Hepatitis new cases due to IV Drug use. We are working against the silences, censorship, myth, misinformation and lack of action. Please contribute to the solution.
For information and registration to the Harm Reduction Coaltion Conference please go to
http://www.harmreduction.org/article.php... The last conference in Miami in 2000 was attended by over 1500 conference participants.
We would be trilled to have you work with us. There are exiting possibilities for the very near future and you have a chance to contribute to these changes.
