I am not supper familiar with this new issue with the Pharmaceutical Companies. Nanettes information seem to be very accurate.
Your doctor seem to be in error. You can still continue to receive methadone as pain killer but not in the 40 mgs, but in some lower sized.
The DEA and the Pharmaceutical Companies seem to believe that by lowering the size of the tablets they might lower the rate of accidental death by people who are buying the large methadone tablets in the black market and eating them to get high without understanding methadone and its size in Milograms and the slow unset rule.
People who want to get high and go out parting do not seem to understand that they can always take more but not less. But they want to get high quick.
Methadone can not be totally compair to heroin or any other opiates. Methadone has characteristics that are not found in the other drugs or medications. People have difficulty that understanding that because of it long acting effect (24 hrs copair to 4 or 6 hours of other opiate pain killers). It also come on very slow. It is not a very good drug of abuse. So if they want to "get high" quicker, Methadone is not the medication to take. Because no matter how many one takes they will take, the unset is not going to compairibly as quick as the other opiates....... So most people have been taking doses that would kill two or three horses if they are not use to the dose and they are clean. If the want to party at night. They most understand they need to take the dose about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, even earlyer like at noon time. It will problably not start reaching the PICK Effect until 7 or 8 pm.
I do not know what is the biggest size methadone you will be able to obtain. I am going to guess 20 and 10 mgs.
I am not too sure how this is going to solve the problem. It might a little, but not significantly. Because unless we educate the people who buying them in the black market. My guess is that they are going to still take more methadone in the hope that they will get on quicker. By the time they take two or three of the 20 mgs, they are going to be in the same hole.
Because of this War on Drugs, people who are useing it illegally are not going to receive any clear advise about Methadone. We could not put public service messages advising people who are taking Methadone Illegally about the slowness of its onset..................... They going to continue to blame it on the patients rather than do the right thing and beging to tell people or give news items that Methadone is a very slow medication and to take to many is going to kill you no matter how bad you want to get high. So if you do not know about methadone and how to use it do not take it. It will kill you at high dose that the person is not use taking.
