Posted by Linda My name is Linda and I have mild scoliosis. This has caused my left leg to be 1 1/2 centimetres shorter than my right leg. I walk with a silght limp. I had regular checkups as a child with a specialist but after I turned 18 I didn't need to go anymore (as I had stopped growing). I was teased as a child and I wore glasses which didn't help. At one point, surgery was suggested but it meant taking a small piece of bone from my thigh and somehow joining it to my left leg to make it longer. Then another specialist suggested putting my left leg into traction to lenghten it. Neither of these treatments ever happened, I think the specialists decided my scoliosis was too mild for major sugery. These days, I have learnt to accept that my body is slightly different other people. I don't worry about the way I walk - I actually consider myself very lucky that I have all four limbs and that I can walk just as well as everyone else. I can look at myself in the mirror and see a beautiful, happy young woman smiling back at me. We are survivors!!
