Vanessa,I am a scoliosis survivor! It is a very scary time for both of you. I was diagnosed at 14 and my mom was terrified. I had a 65 degree rotating curve with a 30 degree curve on the bottom. So it looked like an "S". The best thing I can tell you is to find a great docotr! I mean the best possible. I was lucky to get to Boston Childrens Hospital with Dr. Hall. If your daughters is severe, prepare yourself for possible surgery. A brace can only do so much! Remeber that. She is young and still growing so they might try a brace for a year or two.My scoliosis was from a growth spirt. My mom said my spine couldn't keep up with my frame.. I am 31 now and My rods actually came out about 6 years ago. I was a cheerleader after my 1st surgery, and did lots of "normal" kid things. You both have a journey to walk down and at times it may be scary, but be strong. Gather your friends around you for support because when my mom felt scared then I was terrified. When she felt calm I felt like fighting through. Please let me know if I can do anything.. I counceled childern and their families after my surgeries to help them get through. The email address is my husdands but I will get it and responde to you ASAP. Keep your head up and do research on "Good Doctors" I know a couple if you need the help!! God Bless.. Good Luck.. and find some laughter, its hard but it does help! Stephanie S
