Colleen,
I just found out today that my 11 year old daughter's scoliosis has progressed to 32 degrees from 15 degrees last year when she was first diagnosed. Her Ortho Surgeon has prescribed a body brace for the next 2 years to try to stop it from worsening. He says that if it gets to 40 degrees she will need surgery to have rods screwed to her spine. We are devastated. Our chiropractor says the brace won't help. He says chiropractic adjustments are the only way to stop it from getting worse. the surgeon says chiropractic is a waste of time. Who are we supposed to believe? We've decided to not take any chances and do both. Anything to prevent surgery for my little girl. Sounds like surgery is the only answer for your boyfriend though. The surgery is available in Canada. Our surgeon is at McMaster University Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. You might want to check out the hospital web site. I don't have the URL, but if you search McMaster I'm sure you'll find it. Good luck.
