Hello. My daughter's scoliosis really showed up about 1 1/2 years ago. She has been checked every 4 - 6 months. From the beginning we were told that bracing wouldn't be an option because her spine is pushing in towards her lungs. She started out at about 35% curve. We watched and got our hopes up when one of her visits revealed that the curve had only progressed a few degrees over the previous 6 months. Our next visit 6 months later was not the news we wanted to hear. She had advanced 12 more degrees bringing her thoracic curve to 52%. Growth spurts seem to be the reason for inconsistent advancing. We are now in the process of interviewing pediatric surgeons, although I feel that we'll stick with her original doctor. My daughter is also petite. At 16 years this month, she is about 4' 10 and 85 pounds. I worry that the rods will bother her because she is so thin. The good news is that she should gain some height from the surgery. Hopefully we'll know more this week after talking with 2 surgeons. Feel free to stay in touch. Good luck!
