My name is Kathryn (Kay) Graves. I have lived in Hudson, Wisconsin for many years.
I have scoliosis (have not been treated--except with chiropractic at times), but have managed mostly for over 30 years with natural products) and am writing to give you hope, because I have information about a new scientific discovery that has really helped me.
I am 62 years old now. When I was about 11 years old, right after taking one of the fist polio vaccinations, I came down with what I now think was a small case of polio and by the time I was 12 years old, my spine had taken on a "Z" shape. . .not as drastic as some, but curved in 3 places with the middle curve at 40 degrees.
The first doctor I saw minimized my condition and told me that as long as I could touch my toes, I would be fine???--That was in 1958.
When I was 17, I went to the University of MN for their opinion. The doctors wanted to put a rod in my back (which was experimental at that time) and I went with my instincts and declined this type of invasive, major surgery....After working with others who have had the surgery...I am so thankful that I decided not to get it.
In those days very little was known about treating scoliosis. So needless to say I suffered quite a bit of pain as my body was slowly growing into this deformed shape. All of the muscles on both sides of the "Z" were pulled and stretched every time I moved and resulted in often very painful spasms. However, I managed to live a fairly normal life; got married and had 3 children.
When I was young, my muscles and tissues could recover overnight, so that I could keep going. I didn’t realize that chiropractic care could help me until I was in my mid thirties. Then it provided some temporary relief for a few years, but as I grew older, I avoided adjustments because of the pain and often was unable to recover from an adjustment before it was time for another.
My daughter and I even became massage therapists and later discovered the benefits of therapeutic essential oils and the Raindrop Technique. The oils do give some temporary relief from pain and also kept me going for awhile. (My daughter was blessed through our efforts and now has a growing massage and essential oil business in Hudson, WI.)
However, as I got older it took longer and longer to recover until about a year ago, I hit the wall and I was waking up in the morning with as much pain as I had when I went to bed. Recently I became concerned about being able to hold myself upright.... and when breathing became painful whenever chest muscles were expanded; I started praying for something that could really rebuild muscles and tissue in a short period of time. I felt like I had tried everything and was already taking a lot of supplements and being careful about what I ate. I didn't know what I was looking for, but knew that it had to be something totally different.
Then a friend of mine told me about this new scientific discovery.
