HI KAREN: I see its been almost 2 years since you've written..maybe this site doesnt exist anymore(?) -- In 1975 I had my spinal surgery for scoliosis (31 yrs. ago). Back in those days, the surgery, body cast was the solution..its unheard of these days..it was HELL I gotta say. Being bedridden in that awful cast is something I'll never forget..anyways, I am 45 yrs. old now, the pain NEVER goes away, despite prescription medications, excersising and too many doctor visits to count..like you, I've realized I have to accept and live w/this pain. I take Darvocet, Relafin, Amitriptaline; at nite I take Ambien to try & sleep. A multivitamin should help with calcium & osteoprosis issues, but ask your doctor. My advice would be to make an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon, or even a neurosurgeon for options re: pain management. I am sorry I dont have 'happier' news for you, the pain is something that we just have to deal with. It seems there's not much relief in sight for those of us 30-some-odd years after surgery. I can honestly say "I feel your pain" because I know exactly how much this puts limitations on you, physically (& mentally too). I wish you well, and if you EVER hear of any new treatments, or options, I'd love to hear from you. My name is Ramona & I live in New York State. Take care of yourself, and go see a doctor, it might help!
