Posted by Jennifer Your story in a way is very simular to mine. I too have scoliosis but as a result also have spondylothesis (which is my main problem). Just before my 16th birthday I had my first spinal surgery preformed by Dr. Brown. As a result of that surgery I ended up having to have another one exactly a month later to have a bone fragment removed off of my syatic nerve (which Dr. Brown left there during the first surgery). After that surgery things got a lot better (calm before the storm), than about 6 month later things were worse than they had ever been before...my back pain had reached an all time high. Dr. Brown found out through CAT scans that one side of the fusion didnt take and figured that was why I was still in pain...since he no longer put in plates he sent me to another doctor in Halifax (the only doctor that put in metal any more), that doctor was a complete had no bedside manner at all, I am not even sure if he knew what the term it. I finnaly got fed up with his additute and went back to Dr. Brown to find me another surgeon. The next best guy he knew was in Ontario (now the head of orthopedics in Canada). During surgery he found out that not only had one side of the fusion not taken but the other side was broken (still not totally sure how that happened), I also had a herniated disc sitting on my syatic nerve. He fixed me up great (didnt leave any thing behind). I too was in a plastic cast for about 3 months. THings were great for about a year and a half...I went to lots of doctors in the next few years after that, some said it was scar tissue causing the pain some said herniated disc. No one wanted to do more surgery though...so I started with a sports medicine doctor and a physical trainer and now things are a lot better not 100% but I dont need the pain killers 24/7 any more and am finnaly hopefully to be able to go back to school (after 7 years of being out). I am glad to see that things finnaly worked out for you in the end.
