I left home around 7:15 and arrived at Dundurn Castle at 8:30 ish. There were a few people there already. Some of note are the 3 girls wrapped up in blankets and the twins with flowers for the Duchess. Both groups got lots of media attention and I’ll be looking for them.
I’ve heard from a few people that they saw me waving at the CHCH News camera.
I set myself up at the fence right across from the portico and started my wait. There was some rain and the beautiful blue sky. Very change-y weather. I was standing beside Doreen and Susan, both from Hamilton and we had a nice long chat. The platform for the press was right behind me about 10 feet. They handed out the ribbons around 10:00 and I did get mine.
The press pool formed and a guy from Global hop the fence right where I was standing. There was something about the format of video and he was a late addition. It was fun watching the protocol stuff getting in place.
The motorcade pulled up and Charles and Camilla got out. They went to the receiving line then came over to the crowd.
I was one of the first people to shake Charles hand. He pointed at the ribbon on my scarf and said “I see they have you labeled well” (it says welcome on it) Happy!!!!!!!!!
Camilla came along and I shook her hand and said hello.
There was some sort of paparazzi pushing up behind me trying to get into my spot with his video camera. I stood my ground and he commented to his companion that he’d get closer if this woman didn’t keep growing. I wasn’t going to let him get up on me! His camera was hitting the girl beside me in the head. At one point security pushed his camera back. He was quite rude and I’m glad he left.
They went into the Castle for their tour and the girls with the blankets left. (I hope they don’t get in trouble for skipping school!) They were replaced but several people, most notably Nick. He was about 10 and had a camera. I let him have a bit of my space.
Charles and Camilla came out of the balcony and I got some good pics. Nick took some great ones too!
After they came out they didn’t come to my area again and the crowds started to clear. I didn’t go over to the tree planting but did go over by where the cars were parked.
The crowds there weren’t in the plan to get a walk about but they were yelling “We want the Prince” and “We want the Duchess” and it was decided they would come over. They shook hands and I got a few more pictures. (I didn’t want to take someone else’s hand shake since I got mine already)
It was a great day and I’m excited to have been there!
