The last Tsar, Nicholas II, who was murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918 along with his wife and children, is pictured looking through a telescope and reviewing a military regiment.
William Bortrick, of Burke’s Peerage, who is writing a book on the royal families of Europe, said: “The photographs give a vignette of royal life and it’s pretty important because after 1914 everything changed.
“In 1913 the Kaiser’s daughter Victoria married the Duke of Brunswick of the House of Hanover and it was the last time Europe’s royals got together.
“Lots of royals lost their thrones after this date so these photographs are a glimpse into a world that was soon to end.”
