There have been times when he's said things that have made we wince or cringe, but I'm really at a loss to understand the media's uproar about this one. If the Palace held a reception for noted Welshmen and the same remark was made to Tom Jones, would the media still have gotten their collective knickers in a twist? It's the sort of thing that people with common last names have frequently heard or been asked (Are you all related?)
Here's another article from the Times of India. It appears that a "campaign group committed to abolishing the monarchy" called Republic, is using this incident to further its own ageneda. And, ironoy of ironies, its spokeman is surnamed Smith.
