I don't think SARAH went to the Queen looking for help, but I wouldn't rule out Andrew or Beatrice pleading her case for her.

I'm wondering how far in advance she knew (or suspected) that WW would not be renewing her contract and if that has been the driving force behind all her frenetic activity the past 3 or so years (The flogging of jewelry, candles, bedlinen, whatever, the lobbying the PM and his cabinet for a post as a nutritian guru, her sudden about face regarding seeking TV work in the UK, etc.
We chatted on the board how it wouldn't go on forever, that they would be wanting somebody younger (just as SHE was the somebody younger who replaced Lynn Redgrave) and wondered if she had put any of that money in the bank for a rainy day. Looks like we have our answer.

I wonder whose bright idea it was to set up so lavish an office, etc. And why set this up at all? What was wrong with the way her work in the US was managed before 3 years ago?

I think her biggest problem is that she no longer has anything to sell. Her daughters are grown and people don't have yo rely on her for tidbits about their lives, it's all out in the tabloids for a much cheaper price. Everybody has heard about her divorce woes, her weight problems, her relationship with Diana, her Sept 11 experience and that of Little Red. And the younger people who weren't around when it all happened just aren't interested.
