Sorry to hear you're flaring, especially at this time of year. I can empathise with you as I used to flare every christmas, easter, near my birthday and any time I was due to go on holiday when I was a teenager.
As far as I know, the coating doesn't affect the efficacy of prednisolone. What it does do though is help to prevent you developing stomach ulcers and the stomach wall being 'burnt' and bleeding in the stomach which uncoated prednisolone can cause. I developed ulceration years ago while on uncoated prednisolone, and believe me when I say it's excruciatingly painful..worse than pain from a flare. I now have to take antacids forever because of it. That's why I personally refuse to take uncoated prednisolone.
What dose are you on and when did you start taking them, as it can take a wee while for it to start kicking in, and depends how severe your flare is too. If you change to the uncoated then you'll probably be given an antacid medication too, such as ranitadine or losec, to help reduce any ulceration or burning that might happen.
I hope they start to take affect soon and you don't have to stay on them for too long.
Hope you have the best new year possible.
Hugs, Shona
