(This is the weekly post where you share your week of food. Did you have anything that really made your week, such as your favorite soup, a lunch out, or maybe you had something new? Find a new food product? A new appliance? Please do share!)
We're getting into a rut of some days being good, other days being non-events.
As you know, we missed our big shopping day, and have decided to get a few things to hold us off until the first week in January. We last did big shopping in the beginning of October, so we will be, by and large, living off of our surplus.
I am thrilled that we bought extra whenever we could, so this is even possible.
We're both pretty much broke at the moment, so we are buying items, but not too many.
For me, that means 10 items total, which includes the foil to cook my bread, and a large jar of jam for Dh to have his daily Sunbutter sandwiches with. That's what makes them edible to him, so...!
I am getting no bulk cases of my regular canned pears...I have enough left to get me through, Dh is not getting the corn chips that he eats daily - he has a little left and will make them last, he said.
He also said not to get him cheese, that he has some, and we'll make it work. I have to admit, cheese is an expensive item for us, because he eats some melted on most dinners. I use it to keep up his weight without adding sugar to his diet.
Mostly I need to refill water, and buy some of another type. Eventually, I won't need to, when I get enough containers.
Then get a smaller than usual amount of veges. I need onions, celery, 5 more lbs. of carrots, a couple of heads of broccoli, and 2 bunches of greens. That's a lot less of those items than usual, and I'm not getting any other types of vegetables until January. We will make do with those. I can do a lot with them.
I am drawing a blank on the last item...oh! Chicken! They don't always have it, or if they do the date can be too close on the packs. But, if it's there and good, I'll get a couple of packages.
And, that's it. Ds needs more, he always does with a baby and ddil needing things, but he's buying about 1/3 of what he normally gets. He's concerned about that even, but hopefully he can do it.
He has no meat or chicken, needs some vegetation, is out of baby cereal, needs bananas for the baby, etc.
We don't know if he can do it this evening, or tomorrow, but it will be tight, time-wise, either way. Today ddil has to get together with family to have a talk, and tomorrow they have an appt. *and* Dh has a Drs. appt. at 2:15. He wasn't supposed to have to go in person but every three months, yet here we are again. Hopefully, they can 'fix' this so that he doesn't have to go in person again until March. Any good thoughts for this to go well for us would be appreciated.
Virus aside, (btw, our county just lost someone else to it, and they were just a teenager.) :-( it's hard on Ds to make time each month. That's one reason his paycheck was smaller than usual this month. He can't just take off days during the week. *sigh* Mind you, it's not just us, ddil had appts. with the cardiologists, was fit with a 2 week harness, etc. etc. But, each thing adds up because he can't go far afield to a job if someone's got an appt. here...
But, anyway, I'm trying to plan good meals with what we've got.
Oh, do you remember that I wanted to make apple filling for apple pockets/hand pies? But, I never did. I couldn't find my apples. Have you ever looked everywhere for something - multiple times? We did!
As it turns out, Ds accidentally took them home! Aha! So, they are still in my future, I hope!
How was your eating week?
