I know canned goods are not desirable but they are better than nothing. I buy the small 8 oz cans to not have a lot of leftovers. I don't freeze the leftovers even though I could, I suppose. So I eat same thing for lunch & dinner
Here are a few of veggies I stock up on: beets, saurkraut, peas, beans, corn, lima beans.... you can cook in their cans as well.
I buy bacon once every 6 months. And have 1 slice a week. This bacon has no preservatives. A good thing and less grease.
But I love brussel sprouts. Recently I bought a big bag of garden fresh brussel sprouts. I rinsed then put in freezer bag & froze.
I removed what I wanted to eat. Rinsed and cut in half, steamed in some water to thaw. Pour off any water. Turned on skillet to med added a little bit of olive oil and some bacon grease. I braised the sprouts.
There are lots of recipes that cook with bacon or some bacon grease. Using a little bgrease is better then cooking with bacon..too much grease. Salt & pepper and enjoy.
As for seasonings its best to choose your own.
Brussels were big in all my whole families menus. Grands, etc... aunts, uncles, etc.
We had sprouts with meatloaf, roasts, steaks, chicken, & fish. Sometimes just boiled and buttered with S&P. Yum!
