Posted by Jason Hutto The next year, in January I received a letter from the SCAC saying a meeting was to take place. I knew it wasnt going to be good news. So in short the AC announced the were raising fees, the reason being the state will not fund them and they will have to be self sufficient. I now see why the state stopped funding them. It isnt necessary. Promoters licenses went from $50 up to $100, I could swing that, no big deal. But, event permit prices went from $50 up to $250 per show. That sucks, you could buy a blanket permit of up to twenty shows for $1500, but still that sucks. It's hard to break even on shows, ask any promoter and they will tell you that, unless they stiff the guys. That fee increase made it virtually impossible to break even. So I had some thinking to do. The AC gave us an option to keep the fees like they were. If would be an Advisory Committee led by Jay Eagle, and consisting of about five other promoters, so in a sense we would govern ourselves. Sounded like a good idea. Jay Eagle scheduled a meeting, I'm not sure I was aware of it since I didnt go to it. Another promoter who I've spoke to and worked with alot went to the meeting and said he would talk to them about me. He said the board didnt want me in the group due to me not being in the business long and that most of the others didnt know me. They didnt want me to ruin it for everyone. They had another thing they would do for the promoters not let in. I cant recall the specifics, but it seemed fishy. I called another promoter about this meeting. He said the other promoter wasnt there, and he was the one that brought up my name, and I was allowed in the group. Getting weird huh? Maybe there was two different meetings. But I felt that I couldnt trust the first promoter. I'm paranoid anyway and I was leary about booking him on my shows when I first did since he ran another promotion at the same time. I decided not to book him or his tag partner anymore, citing the reason of no competition in the tag division. He said cool, and we continued to talk. About this time I read an interview from his tag partner, I looked forward to it since I was sure my promotion would be mentioned since he worked for me around that time. The question was something to the effect of what do you think about Jason Hutto and CCW? His response: Jason is a great guy and he works hard. But, he's much like Thomas Simpson, he's a mark, plain and simple, he books matches he wants to see. Case in point we were his tag champions and he decides not to book us due to no competition. It's not hard, build competiton. Of course my reason wasnt the truth, and I dont know why I gave it. I like his compliment about me. I would like to know the definition of mark though, I've wondered exactly what it meant. I always thought it meant wrestling fans, with varying degrees of markism. And everyone in the business should be a mark in some ways. As far as making matches I want to see that was bullshit. Most of the time I would have to work with what I was given, and try to come up with a good show for the fans. If I only booked things I wanted to see then Ric Flair would have been the CCW Champion. I tried to call this guy, email him whatever to get in touch personally. No response. So I posted my rebuttal on the site were the interview was posted saying pretty much everything I've already said. The promoter also posted a response to me. We never discussed this matter in person, or phone. So David if you read this I apologize. I may have been wrong, or I may have been right. But if you look at it from my point you should see where I thought I couldnt trust you. I learned alot from you, and you also answered any questions I had. I thank you for that. Now I needed to decide the future of CCW. The fee increase hurt bad. I figured maybe I could partner up with another promotion and do a joint show using their permit, and I would provide Merlins so the other promotion could expand a little. I got in touch with Cowboy and went to one of his shows to meet with him. Again, no offense, but the shows were bad. I felt adding their talent to a show would hurt the product but I still talked with Cowboy. We had differences. He wanted a family show, no cussing. But the show was going to be at Merlins. No scantilly clad woman. And the one that got me, no low blows. Why I asked? It's cheap he responded. Yeah but it's a heel tactic I said. It's cheap he said again. Basically we got nothing done during this meeting. I went back again. Once again bad show. My goal was to simply ask who he wanted on the show and I would book it. It was already agreed I would book the show. He never got around to telling me who he wanted on the show, he did go ahead and book his ref though. I thought and thought and thought. I really didnt want to do this show, but I didnt want to pay the fees either. Finally I said #### it, CCW will run. I called Cowboy at least two months before the tentatively scheduled date of the show to let him now I decided to run on my own. He said well now is a fine time to tell me. I said it is saying we dont have a date set, and we dont have anything booked. This would be the best thing for my promotion at this time. He responded "You can take your promotion and shove it up your ass" I was ready to fire back but he hung up. I thought that was very unprofessional for someone who has been in the business so long. I did the right thing. I let him know. I hate the athletic commission. Truely I do. I know you have a job to do, but you should at least know your own guidelines. They started coming to my shows in March 2001. Mainly because they knew Merlin, and they could act like they were doing something while getting drunk. I was told by the commissioner that a valet would need a manager license. I told him an investigator told me just get all the talent licensed as wrestlers, since they would be involved anyway. He said "Yeah we'll see about that" a few minutes later he let me know I was right. Nice commission, I know more about the rules than they do. He busted my balls that night. I already had to reshuffle the show due to numerous no-shows, that show in my opinion was the worse one I had. The show was already 30 minutes late and he wanted me to write a list of matches, list everyones name and license numbers and collect everyones licenses. I told him I already submitted a list of people that were to be on the show, and I will make him a list of matches, but he will have to get all that other info. I was pissed and later apologized. He understood he was a prick that night. This is something I wont apologize for. And I hope someone from the SCAC reads this. All of you guys can suck my balls and lick my ass.

So I take a much deserved "rest" for December. I thought things were going well for the most part. The shows were getting better, the talent was getting better, the crowds were decent. Enter January, and a few stubbling blocks in the easy rolling train known as CCW.
