Posted by Maureen on 4/2/2004, 4:41 pm So why Apollo 15? I finally went to the trouble of looking up "Apollo 15" and "plaque". What do you know? It turns out that Apollo 15 was not only famous for being the "hammer and feather experiment" mission, but also for leaving a special, non-mission plaque: The Memorial to Fallen Astronauts, which lists all 14 astronauts and cosmonauts who'd died in their programs up to that date. It's about 20 feet away from their Hadley-Apennine landing site. They also left a little sculpture figure next to it that represented the fallen. So Dwayne wasn't just mad about the flag getting knocked down; he was also mad about the disrespect to Earth's honored dead. Maureen

There's a scene in "Moon Madness", during the fight on the Moon, when the giant robot Stanley throws Big Guy and knocks down the American flag left by an old lunar mission. Big Guy turns his head and we see a plaque marked "Apollo 15" with a lot of writing on it. Big Guy then announces, "Ooh, now you've done it!" and proceeds to whip Stanley's metal butt.
