rear trailing arms

So I have a stock '70 irs bug and was thinking about doing some up grades. I was wondering if i get those after market long rear trailing arms do i have to have a bus trans axle or would anything like that work out on my stock irs bug???or is there ANY way to bug on a pair of bus axles on my bug with out going to a full bus transaxle???
