The 3.0L CRD diesel is what the Grand Cherokee is getting. The Wranler is getting a Diesel but not for the US. It's actually been like that for quite awhile but we can't buy one.
The 3.8 in the new Wrangler is the same engine from the Grand Caravan (mini-van). They've modified the torque curve of it and gave it an electronic throttle so when you put it in 4wd the computer will further change how the engine runs.
