Posted by Shinji on 12/3/2002, 6:03 am In Bangkok and Pattaya, the police are rather strict about (compulsory) insurance. I imagine that most rental bikes in Pattaya have now compulsory insurance. 2) Which paperworks I have to show to the police ? Theoretically, license plate, tax sticker and insurance sticker must be adhered on the bike. Plus you must carry a driver's license and a photocopy of the registration book. 3) Can I use the highway ? If you mean an ordinary road, yes. Though, sometimes the renter makes you sign a contract that you don't bring the bike out of Pattaya. This is a matter of civil law. 4) Will I get a problem with the police if the bike is nit noi loud ? Theoretically yes, but practically no. 5) If I get a problem with the police with that bike ... how much I need to pay to solve the problem ? Driving without insurance can be troublesome, depending on how much the police want to squeeze you. The maximum fine is 50,000B, but usually it's under 20,000B on formal accusation. Informally, gee, I don't know... See below:
