A good woman is very valuable indeed. This positive affirmation of women is what I'm looking for in the Koran. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. These are all attributes of a good woman or of a good husband for that matter. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. The Jewish and now Christian women often provide for their families. The working woman is honored. 15 She gets up while it is still dark;she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. The believing woman cares for other people and provides for them. 16 She considers a field and buys it;out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. The Jewish woman was involved in commerce. She was honored for providing for her family. No one questions her ability to remember a verbal contract, she actually initiates them and then carries through with the terms. No weakling women here. They don't sit around waiting for a "big strong" man to provide for them. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She is hard working and a good trader. 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. She provides for the needs of others through her own resources. 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for her bed;she is clothed in fine linen and purple. She is an excellent provider for her family. 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. Her husband is respected because or his wife. She is the source of his prestige. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;she can laugh at the days to come. Again she is the provider for the family. 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She is honored for wisdam, and is not called stupid. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Self explanatory. 28 Her children arise and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her: 29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." She is honored all around for being a complete strong wise person. 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. 31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. While I'm waiting for positive statements about women in the Koran and hadiths, I decided to do some research myself on the topic. Since Khadija is the most famous Muslim woman, I decided to check her out in the Koran but found nothing. There are a few references in the hadiths which state she was the best of woman. This hardly qualifies as a general affirmation of the female sex. It appears she is famous in Islam and is respected because of her association with a man. She is an interesting person to think about. If the stories are true, she lived most of her life and became successful as a businesswoman before Islam ever existed. Indeed one could question whether she ever became a Muslim since much of Islam was developed after her death. She will be remembered for none of these other things only because of her decision to marry Muhammad.

While I'm waiting for the positive statements about women in the Koran I would like to discuss this passage more.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;her arms are strong for her tasks.
NIV
The whole city knows her and honors her for her greatness. She is not an anonymous dark shadow with no face shrinking in the background unknown except to a few acquaintances.
