Since ato has been monitoring this boardas and posting things here, I would like to make my own statement about atheism. Perhaps, if ato is serious about a discussion, this can serve as a springboard.
In my opinion, there are two distinct types of atheists.
1. As a philosophical position, atheism has an essential role in human thought. In our quest for truth, we must be willing to consider the possibility that God doesn't exist. If we discount that possibility out of hand, we can not have a balanced philosophical stance. I have a great deal of respect for anyone who can articulate the atheist position well and who is willing to accept the consequences of that choice.
2. Militant atheists are an entirely different type of individual. Militant atheists are usually materialist reductionists. Since they believe that their thoughts are nothing but atoms bouncing around in space, an honest atheist will admit that he/she can not know truth. Militant atheism is essentially a black hole, or worse yet a complete void. Thus, militant atheists must define themselves by what does not exist, by what they are against. If they can convince themselves that they know more that the Christians, then they can delude themselves to believe that they at least know something.
Militant atheists are not philosophically balanced, themselves. If they were, they would acknowledge that atheists have no intellectual foundation upon which to base moral judgments. Yet, militant atheists are filled with pseudo-morality and outrage at supposed moral transgressions by theists. They especially like to attack Christians because they know it will not cost them anything personally. If an individual like ato were to post those attacks against Islam in an Islamic country, her life expectancy would be limited. She and other militant atheists know that, so they carefully define their attacks against safe targets.
The closest militant atheists have come to filling the void where God belongs is Marxism. Even Marxism is about perpetual struggle between classes. In other words, a militant atheist knows, or thinks he/she knows, he is alive by the emotional jolt derived from violence. If he/she can feel pain, especially if the pain is vicarious from someone else who is suffering, the atheist derives the illusion that somehow there must be something real about himself/herself. Somehow, by incredible violence and suffering, Marxism is supposed to produce paradise, in which the ennui of the atheists is finally resolved. After 100 million murders, and countless other people tortured and injured, the atheists are still as far as ever from their paradise. The glorification of murder among militant atheists continues to this day. Obviously, so long as atheists are spiritually empty this paradise can be nothing but an illusion. Material objects can never fill the spiritual void left by the departed deity.
