I have a great assessment tool I have been using for a while. It is called the Communication Matrix. This on-line resource provides you with a great chart and graph to show parents the levels of communication: pre-intentional, unconventional, concrete symbols, abstract, etc...I have found this to be helpful to use with the multiple disability or severely disabled children who cannot participate in formal standardized testing. Also, best of all...it's FREE to use
