You may want to try a device that can have Kurzweil or another text to speech program. They allow you to set it up so when he starts to type a word, it will drop down a list of words that he could be trying to type, to make it faster. He then has the option of activating it to say what he typed.
You can also load books and he can read along while it reads aloud to him. You can set it to highlight as it reads, can change font size and style, etc.
