I was a brand new LTJG just on board in late 72 or early 73, hard to remember since we at sea for a long time during that period. We went into the Indian Ocean to cover the Big E during the Indian Pakistani war. I was the photo officer among other things and Captain Smith took the photo when we meet up with the carrier and its task force. We came to periscope depth about 4,000 yards behind the carrier and I believe Captain Smith sent them a copy for their wardroom.
