I remember the incident quite well as I was the ERUL watch the day of that exercise and I was responsible for launching the combos out of the signal ejector. It was the WestPAC '76 and the surface pukes weren't happy about one of the flares landing on the flight deck. It seems that fire and jet fuel don't mix. God Bless!
