Michael Gansas is the ferry boat captain involved in the deadly collision in New York. He reportedly attempted suicide according to the news I have been reading. He is the same guy who put on a harness and went out on the deck in heavy seas and saved one of seven Portuguese sailors. As a result of the rescue, the sail of the Scamp Maru was so badly damaged she was decommissioned.
