If memory serves me correctly there was a series of exercises with the Enterprise during Wespac 76 off the Phillipines. The rumor was that during the pre-exercise briefing Cap'n Groth had told the Admiral of the skimmers and his minions that he would be able to take a picture of the 'Prise, within 3000 yds and they would not ever know we were in the area. They passed overhead, we went to periscope depth with the old man yelling 'photo... photo... photo..', busted a flare signifying we had launched weapons and hauled ass underneath, came up on the other side and repeated the sequence. We wound up beating the task group 11 out of 12 times. On the 12th engagement Groth was told he had to remain within a 12 mile diameter circle. I was in sonar when we went deep to check temps and upon breaking through a layer there were dipping helos above pinging away. One of the helo's came over the WQC and announced, "Good morning Bravo 4, we got you." Angles and dangles trying to get away but to no avail.
