doesn't distract me, lol, even though yes I'm wordy
i'm stating I think it is distracting to focusing on completing this season at this point.
I think Tyler, Valenzuela, and Monson are all completely different situations, 3 diff coaching communities - so I don't think that's a big deal
in case of Reagan, I like the decision, opening up a search IMO would have caused substantial defections vs. the team staying together with Reagan and Huus highly regarded, even if their overall experience and 'reputation' might be poo poohed by some in the VB sphere.
I like the motivation it provides.
it's another reason I wanted to see Scholl announced as interim or HC in waiting. not because I'm totally sold on his HC ability. but I think to your point it shows committment and loyalty and moves on from Monson, and the player connection to the current staff remains. I wanted to give it a shot. plus I respect Scholl's academic background. just seems like the right move. who knows how scholl would handle as a game coach, learning curve maybe more so with him accustomed to his current roll
Damn, that’s a lot of commentary for a guy who doesn’t want to be distracted, LOL. Plus, to be fair, the latest initiator to bring up the possibility was someone decidedly not a Monson supporter. Scholl as an interim is an interesting idea, though it’s not a great strategy on a player retention /recruiting point of view. Given how they’ve handled Tyler and Valenzuela departures / backfill, I’d worry how putting another full season interim coach in place is going to be received within the coaching community as far as Long Beach being an ongoing D1 athletic entity. I’m in zero way advocating for Monson for the reasons you stated, but the only ace in the hole he might have is a willingness to hang on for 1 or 2 years, allowing the powers that be to keep kicking the can, which we seem to be turning into an art form.
this will be, barring catrastrophe, the 5th 20 win season in 17 years
the guy has a < 50% D1 winning record - REPEAT he will end up with a <50% winning record, he's been paid to LOSE
Portland, lots of new players, they are horrific, and we lost with a veteran team
Montana State
the IRvine debacle - KILLED student enthusiasm for basketball
Ill State
Northridge
a 5 game winning people turns thought process into knucklehead thinking
please stop DISTRACTING from the season by engaging in Monson talk - major kill joy
other than given Scholl & staff an interim for next year, that'd be fine, those guys have a huge hand in the components of this team we salute
for finality, and hand out Monson rub the dome T-shirts for a final game tribute at the last game, complete with an Omega watch that when the clock goes backwards, he receives a dollar
but puuhleeez, don't let an impending win over a sub 0.500 conf Hawaii team turn into some humungous accomplishment, because that should be expected this year, not some evidence of greatness
really, a 5 game win streak, 2 of the wins over the bottom two teams,
recency bias at work
1700 fans, and it looked like about 1000,
wow
just enjoy the season, enough with going gaga over finally almost playing like they should have been in November
