I think he s stated he's a chief cook and bottlewasher at Long Beach, which was maybe a hint. At USC, if he's coming into a strictly teaching/game role while being able to support the NT, I can see that.
Still, part of a HC is to develop more delegation to assistants. The first year the two assistants didn't seem nearly as engaged as Morgan & Huus this last year. Would think he could delegate even more?
But who knows, maybe that required some more funds that basically the answer is no, and Tyler just understands restraints and since he can 'call his own shots' more without financial constraints.
the other thing, I'm sure he had talked to some major xfers to get to Long Beach, where basically he had no path to offer NIL money, which prevented what he thought he needed to get to another level,to me that might be part of it.
either way, and it's all speculation, would still be frustrating, had hoped Tyler would stick it out a couple more years to win a title. this does come across as Tyler a bit 'mavericky' as he's changed positions like 4 times in 6 or 7 years now.
ALl the best for him, well if he goes to USC, nope, no good wishes lol. Just a tough situation, and now puts a lot on Morgan and Bjarn to make a pitch to keep the team together. #1 they could use an assistant coach with solid setter background. That was one of Tyler's major draws for Zayna. Keeping her hopefully will happen, at least she won't go to USC with Tuaniga there, lol. again assuming all this smoke is fire.
Hmmm….i remember an informed poster (my perception based on past posts) was that Tyler’s financial package was considered pretty competitive when hired. Don’t know if anything has changed in the way of promises made over time by the administration?
potentially going to SC as an assistant would seem to be a step back vis-a-vis his having gone back to Nebraska and it’s dominant program?
From my biased view, it would seem staying at LB and continuing to rebuild the program would be a better career path to a P5 or national team job?
so if true, probably more money, not as much day to day,
and possible side gig with NT assistant
jeez, hopefully Beach offered some leeway with NT role.
just a bummer if this is all true.
If there is any truth to the rumor and Northwestern and UCSD were in consideration:
* Think Northwestern is a graveyard for any coaching candidate. Too many entrenched power programs in the Big 10 with history, facilities, finances and NIL. How does anyone overcome Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue, Minnesota (although a coaching change last year). Think UCLA (certainly) and USC are going to struggle in the Big 10.
* UCSD: A strange dismissal of Luttyies? He seemed to have the program trending in the right direction.
Tyler has been great.
Natalie and Bjarn have been effective assistants, but Tyler is the straw that stirs
Just have to wonder who would throw money at him.
I can't believe UCSD, but that is SoCal
Northwestern, an uphill battle even for a very capable coach.
would think it might be somewhere else.
If he's leaving for Northwestern or UCSD, that will tell you the state of LBSU athletics...
Tyler leaving???
