15-5 might have a shot, maybe with tie-breakers to be a top 2 seed, so.
have to finish 11-2 over last 13 games
for a top 4 seed, just a lot more variation likely, but 13-7 is probably good shape, meaning, have to go 9-4 over last 13 games,
keep in mind, still have 4 games against Irvine and Davis, who are the current top 2 seeds.
IOTW, to have any reasonable shot at a top 2 seed, absolutely have to beat Irvine next week.
the team has to put together a couple winning streaks.
and the 3 pt FG% defense numbers have become staggering. not only giving up a high%, giving up a lot of 3s, that's simply a tough thing to overcome. it's almost crazy how other BW coaches are picking at our tendencies (double-teaming, type of zones, pick n role defense) to get a lot of 3s,and especially a lot of good looks from 3.
can't say what the answer is, but the team is playing hard like crazy, and still gives up a lot of 3s. modern game is you can't give up high% 3s and win
Irvine doesn't shoot a lot of 3s, and they make super high %, yuk, that combination alone presents a big uphill battle and strategy to deal with for the historical philosophy and patterns of our head coach. I thought our D played incredibly hard that first half vs. Hawaii, and guys were lookiing winded somewhat late first half. and Hawaii kept bombing away, you have to have a really deep perimeter defensive team to play our zones and trapping man to cover the 3s like we are trying to do. Stroud is not quick. Silva grabs a lot. We have the guys, just they have to really be dedicated and able to play hard D for 40 minutes, well maybe 35 for the Big West, to win with the spot-ups from 3 we give up. Guys better be lifting a lot this bye week and beyond to be physically up to continuing that pressure and improving it. One great half does not a trend make.
