the questions this year
1) MB. Bouchkov to me made the biggest impression. like Holdaway, quick off his feet, will have to see a few more games. how good he develops as a blocker we'll see, and his serving looked good, Shane was never a super high quality server
2) Godbold on the left. It was Long Island, and we'll ave to wait for more formidable competition but he looked fantasic on the back-row attacks. a big/huge question is this team needs to receive so not clear yet if he can transition to a nails receiver like Huus was in 2018. hasn't been a primary receiver his career so far. A promising start
3) maybe the biggest question still a question. Varga on the right. had a lot of errors, some solid kills, his serve looked good. ultimately there are some big time opps out there (Loyola's & UCLA's David) and only a few matches will prove out. not getting to the NC match without big-time opp play.
4) Serving. it looked more commanding. Knipe added a nice jump-serve, Towrie looked in rhythm, Bloom as a sub looked better to the eye. Not a lot of float serves at least for this match. Very promising, but one match
5) Setter. Knipe looks solid, he's got to play well under pressure when we get to bigger matches. So just have to see, the back-row attacks and Bouchkov connection was great.
got the jitters out of the way. Beach looked like a Beach team, not overly dominating hitting; ; put constant pressure, big block, and wear 'em down methodically. They'll crush whoever they play tomorrow, hope get to see a few more like Sani and McRaven out there in this first month.
Next week vs. George Mason on the road will be the first real test where we'll see a better glympse of maybe just how good.
