per Monson on the presser.
now will Jones and Chayce be back for next week.
depth is good, albeit also nice to win with basicallly a 7 man rotation
Monson clearly not hesitant to put Hart, Lewis, & Chayce out there - which is good.
have to say that Hart shows continually improvement and might play himself into more minutes by end of season.
good: won the game in the 1st half, with AT on the bench. different guys made plays. Tsohonis had one of his better halves, shot selection wise, nice passes, Silva made nice feeds, Messiah under control. LT was a beast and you know our 3 pt shooting is bad if LT is our best 3 pt shooter. note, if he's gonna take that shot, seems top of the key so missing long can bank in is the way to go. AJ some nice shots, and the man defense guarded 3s mostly well, even if we were giving up on the boards. It was good to see that without two best defenders out (AT & Jones), the team had a good focus.
lol @ D. Miller saying our defense was bad, while only giving up 34 points 1st half, extra incentive to attend vs. listening to that blowhard. he needs to go to announcing school - how does his partner put up with that guy?
2) Messiah 2nd game starting, and 2nd game making mostly good decisions and keeping the ball moving. & then Silva did better as a sub, at least 1st half. but both combined for 0 rebounds, ouch
3) Tsohonis, went into too much try to score mode 2nd half, although the first was solid, and lots of good passes. but he needs to lay off the 3 big-time, it's a key reason our 3 shooting is bad. albeit only 1 was a bad shot selection this time
4) that last 80 seconds, yikes, talk about practicing how to throw away a game. two 3 pt fouls withing 10 seconds, leading to 6 Riverside FTs, while our FT clank machine was in play. just bad. there was a short period where the game was not in doubt anymore after squandering half of the 15 pt lead. sorry, but god help us if putting in Maddox is the late game answer to hold off a team, lol.
5) Hart, jr, had a great game, played about 20 seconds, hit BOTH his FTs! and contested a 3 without fouling.
6) AJ, his rebonding last few games is key, just he is not solid strength with the ball.
7) AT, played almost all 2nd half with 2 fouls, now just avoid that 1st half 2nd foul which is no easy task with the way he plays all out.
8) have to say our frst two 3s, were solid plays, and led to wide open shots for Lewis, too bad he didn't convert, but at least got solid looks.
9) 3-1, in position for the next stretch, even if all 3 were again bottom tier of conference.
10) now have to improve with playing upper tier and road games next 5 games. can play in to the top seeding tier. can they parlay defense finally into
UCSD is solid, have upped their defense, so the team needs to move the ball and not be that predictable iso team
11) LT, only two turnovers, considering Riverside was doubling him, and hanging all over him. one of his best games overall, albeit his recent FT performances abandoned him.
beating SD on the road would remove a lot of doubt
FTs
