how well will Silva respond when Fullerton will likly pressure & test Silva aggresively? Silva starts out all the time, and he can be shakey, so far has a not so good 1:1 Assist to TO ratio, which is horrible for a pt guard. this won't be Dominguez Hills pressure. I expect Full to try to expose Silva and guard him agressively. will he start off with a couple assists and TOs? or with a coupld nice passes and his trademark floater shot off a drive.
the other to watch is LT, he should have an advantage, so can Full push him out from position? or do they double (I expect Full to do so and be active to force passes) or can he get low on the block for a more inside challenged Full team? LT has a tendency to turn it over, not the greatest passer, and almost solely posts on the right side
Full will try to pull LT outside the bucket on pick n roll after pick n roll. and use drives and kick-outs to negate LT and especially AT coming over to help. Another key where LT has to guard better man to man.
if LT and Silva start out strong, I think Beach can win solidly, on the other hand, if we get bogged down early with bad possessions with these two either taking not so solid shots or some bad passes, combined with others beginning to force shots, it could be a long slogfest game. Fullerton will try to make this an ugly lower possession game and I believe what they can do is transition well back on defense to disrupt any attempt to force the pace.
A game requiring some level of patience - not always the best quality of this team.
still Beach has our own solid defense, definite rebounding advantage. shot decisions will be key. I think the game will be a little ugly, to Fullerton's credit and coach.
if the score(s) are over 80, we win, score(s) under 70, we lose. this will be a tough game - due to pace. both teams have had a lot of time to prepare which in this case favors Full IMO, strategy to make it a slog.
opening line.
my guess is Beach will be about a 1.5/2, maybe 3, point favorite.
looking at Fullerton's stats, it makes one think Beach should be an even bigger favorite
Fullerton's wins don't really stand out, however they do have a couple road wins over Pepperdinw and Sac State. they've lost big in a lot of games vs. higher quality opponents
guard oriented, and not sure if that's good or bad - nobody looks 'stand-out' type player in the stats, no big stands out for sure.
comes down to Dedrique Taylor has emerged as one of the better, if not maybe the best, game coaches in the Big West - has two BWCT titles, has taken it to Irvine in games. has to be in the top 3 of Big West coaches, and has had to re-load last two years, and seems to get solid enough talent to stay in the upper Big West.
this should be, operative word is should, a game LT can do well inside, and Fullerton will also guard our guards/perimeter well.
first five opponents with Full, North, Poly, Riverside, UCSD before getting 3 of the top contenders in SB/Irv/Hawaii. Can this team put it together and grind for 40 minutes to show the talent can play like a more dominant Big West team?
