Most likely Monson tried to get a home game with SD, but it didn't work out.
And I agree with you DD. Homecoming should be played against one of your weaker opponents. Because you are playing in front of a large crowd. Many of them are not sports fans and have no idea what D1 or D2 means. But they will remember if you lose.
