Raising expectations is a tough job because a lot of oldtimers feel like they were conned and abused over the past decade. Those of us who are long-time followers know that things are turning around. We have seen it before. The more casual fan will likely become a strong fan once we start winning on a consistant basis.

: I can see the Texas, Duke, and Kentucky games
: ending up like the Syracuse game a year ago.
:
: I can see the Notre Dame and Green Bay games
: ending up like the Wisconsin and BYU games a
: year ago. The Green Bay game though is
: very winnable.
:
: And West Virginia isn't a given to romp on
: us, as teams traveling 3000 miles to play a
: local school (albeit on a neutral court) can
: have trouble. Just ask Wake Forest and the
: close game Fullerton gave them a year ago in
: Anaheim.

: I think that ya'll ought to slow down just a
: bit and take a deep breath!!! It's gonna be
: a long season, in more than one way perhaps,
: and remember that good things take TIME!!!
: Kind of like this country's economy, took a
: long time to f-up and gonna take a good
: while to repair.....we didn't get in the
: situation, basketball wise,
: overnight....took a lot of piss poor
: decision making to get us to the point that
: we were in two years ago.....

: With hot shooting and minimizing opposing
: interior players we can beat anyone, so long
: as we don't turn the ball over 20 times a
: game. We have athletes that can guard any
: position heads up, so long as they want to,
: except at the 5 spot.

: I think our program needs some higher
: expectations now. We have a solid coaching
: staff, some young studs, and an impressive
: schedule. Why not have some high
: expectations? Because we are afraid of a
: letdown? I'd rather the fan culture be
: geared towards some reasonably high
: expectations, but with patience and
: understanding when they don't quite
: materialize. I'm willing to give this
: regime a lot of patience because I see the
: talent pipeline bursting like never before
: (in my time as a fan since 1987) and I have
: confidence in the coaching.
:
: That being said, in nonconference I doubt we
: will win any of those tough road games, I
: believe that goes far beyond reasonably high
: expectations. I'd be very happy with wins
: at Wisc. Green Bay and a home win vs. Utah
: St., and I expect road wins at Pepp and LMU
: and blowouts at home against Alaska Anch and
: Monterey. A win at the 76 Classic where we
: are the weakest team in the field (yes
: Portland is getting ranked better than us
: preseason) would be nice and is my guess for
: the greatest chance of a big time win.
